The Site
Miller Homes’ site is located in Cofton Hackett, immediately west of the St Modwen Homes’ Cofton Grange development. The site offers an opportunity to deliver new homes in a well-connected village location, combining a countryside feel with easy access to local amenities, services and green spaces.
Local Amenities
Frankley Great Park provides retail and leisure opportunities, including Omniplex Cinema, Hollywood Bowl and eateries such as Nando’s, Costa and Frankie & Benny’s.
Nearby Longbridge Town Centre also provides a variety of supermarkets including M&S, Sainsburys and other retail outlets such as Boots, Poundland, Mountain Warehouse and Tailor Made, a dry-cleaning service. It also hosts the popular street-food, bar and comedy venue Herbert’s Yard, part of the successful range of Digbeth Dining Club venues.
Lickey Hills Golf Course, the Country Park and Cofton Reservoir are all on the doorstep.
A Sustainable Location
The site’s location being west of Skylark Street offers strong connections to both Cofton Hackett and the wider area. Longbridge town centre, with its range of shops, food and leisure destinations, is in easy reach, while Longbridge railway station provides park and ride facilities and frequent rail services into Birmingham. The site also benefits from convenient access to local bus routes and the strategic road network, including the M5, M42 and A38.
Vehicular access to the site would be provided directly from Skylark Street. Nature is on the doorstep, with Cofton Park and Lickey Hills in easy walking distance.
The proposals would also form a natural extension of the village and have the potential to enhance the area’s character.
The Case For New Homes
All Councils in England are expected to allocate land to deliver enough homes to meet the needs of residents, and to safeguard land for future development. In December 2024, the National Government introduced a new method for calculating the number of homes a Local Authority needs to supply. This new method increased Bromsgrove’s target by approximately 84.7%, meaning that Bromsgrove District Council needs to identify land for 713 homes per year.
Bromsgrove District Council is currently unable to demonstrate sufficient ‘housing land supply’, which is why we are bringing forward our proposals to provide high-quality, sustainable homes at Land West of Skylark Street.
